tin ice cream signs

The history of Benson’s Homemade Ice Cream leads us back to Katherine Perley, who ran a farm stand at the current location on route 133. In order to lure more customers to the farm, an ice cream stand was opened in 1932, ran out of the side porch. Today, four generations later, Katherine’s great, Tina, continues to run the family owned business now in its 80th year. The stand opens in the early Spring, and closes for the season in October. Throughout the season, customers come by to enjoy the friendly family atmosphere, the old-fashioned ice cream stand nostalgia, and the homemade ice cream only found at Benson’s. Many of the customers are regulars, returning every season for the same ice cream they enjoyed growing up, passing the experience onto their own children. Others are passer bys, realizing that if the line is so long there must be something worth the wait! So what are you waiting for? Come to Benson’s today! You’ll be happy you did!

"If Benson’s Homemade Ice Cream in West Boxford isn’t the best place on the planet to order an ice cream cone, we need to move to another solar system. This is the ideal spot on a hot summer day or a steamy evening when the only thing that matters is homemade ice cream and lots of it. Pick from a variety of flavors and then sit at a shaded picnic table and enjoy your prize. Be sure to check out the reverse chocolate chip—you won’t be sorry." Northshore Magazine August 2010.

Our Fresh Native Red Raspberry Ice Cream was featured on the cover of the 2009 Aug/Sept issue of Northshore magazine. Benson’s was awarded Best Ice Cream North of Boston in the 2004 Best of Boston issue of Boston Magazine.
